Bringing Back the Sunday School!

Finally, with Covid-19 rules reduced and severity declining, we have been able to re-open our Sunday School and Creche. At Hammersmith Christian Fellowship we believe in the importance of teaching children the Bible. The Bible commands us to teach children and shows us the value God places on children.

“Matthew 19:13-15 One day some parents brought their children to Jesus so he could lay his hands on them and pray for them. But the disciples scolded the parents for bothering him. But Jesus said, “Let the children come to me. Don’t stop them! For the Kingdom of Heaven belongs to those who are like these children.” And he placed his hands on their heads and blessed them before he left.”

Now, from halfway through the service there is a low hum from downstairs with the children’s laughter as they are taught the Bible in fun and interactive ways.

We try to use every opportunity of our downstairs’ time, providing a warm welcoming environment for all the children.

We always start Sunday School playing short simple and fun games, and everyone gets involved. It is a very exciting time and each moment is absolutely precious. The material we use is the God’s Great Plan series which starts with Abraham and uses the Bible and visual aid material to communicate God’s message of salvation. I think it has been fun and very effective for the kids to understand. We share art and crafts during the class and the children are encouraged to memorize weekly Bible verses with the support of their parents at home. As a result of their commitment and effort, there is always a prize in recognition of their achievement.

I am very pleased with the loyalty of the church members who faithfully support me when I teach the Sunday School class. They help with the activities, games and managing the kids. I currently have 4 volunteers and my great desire is to recruit more helpers to guide the children.

‘For the kingdom of heaven is like a landowner who went out early in the morning to have labourers for his vineyard.

Matthew 20:1

And in Creche, it is never too young to start to learn about God, so we began in the beginning, creation. The tots have been learning about creation and how God has to power to create just by speaking.

Psalm 78 v 4: “We will not hide these truths from our children; we will tell the next generation about the glorious deeds of the Lord, about his power and his mighty wonders.”
